Did you know that York residents are outnumbered by tourists 33:1*?That makes for a pretty busy experience of the city for most of us locals when we venture into town.
Craft Savvy did some research recently which highlighted that 78% of residents agreed with the following statement:
‘I try to avoid certain times and places in York city centre when it’s going to be busy with tourists, race goers and stag and hen do’s’This weekend is a chance for York residents to be tourists in your own city by taking part in York’s Residents Festival.
There’s over 100 amazing attractions, events and offers available with a valid York Card or Student ID – plenty of them are free to access.
The festival is designed as a way of saying ‘thank you’ for the warm welcome residents give to York’s visitors.
It’s a great initiative but is one weekend in a year enough?
Our aim is try and help York residents to enjoy and support the city’s independent food and drinks scene all year round.
A great way to do this is to venture out mid week, at quieter times and when you can find good value. The pubs, bars and restaurants of York will truly appreciate this and the local economy will benefit long term.
If you are off out in York this weekend and you’d like to support independent businesses whilst doing so, check out our listings and deals that are available with a Crafty Card.
Enjoy your weekend.
