Ainsty Ales is an independent brewery based just outside York, creating great craft beer using traditional small batch brewing and only the finest ingredients.
Ainsty Ales’ range of excellent beers can be bought directly from the brewery or sampled at the cosy Ainsty Ales Tap Room. You can find Ainsty Ales Brewery at the Manor Farm Building in Acaster Malbis, where the brewery grows its own hop crop.
I can heartily recommend trying Ainsty Assassin, an oatmeal stout boasting hints of chocolate and coffee with a deliciously sweet finish.
Treboom is a York-based brewery with a passion for quality, flavoursome craft ales.
Lead by research scientist John Lewis and artist Jane Blackman, Treboom’s unique combination of art and science has created some award-winningly tasty beers, including my personal favourite, Yorkshire Sparkle. This pale ale offers refreshing citrus and grapefruit flavours for a tropical, tangy taste. It’s their best-selling beer for a reason!
If you are interested in learning how a top quality beer is brewed, Treboom Brewery open every second Saturday of the month 12-4pm for a free tour of the brewery and a beer tasting session.
Yorkshire Heart Vineyard & Brewery
Located in Nun Monkton, Yorkshire Heart Vineyard and Brewery is an award-winning family-run business.
Widely recognised as one of Yorkshire’s finest artisan drink producers, the Yorkshire Heart brewery is dedicated to producing high quality, easy drinking craft beers using only the best malts and hops and water from their very own natural spring.
If you’re a fan of session ales you owe it to yourself to try Off The Wheaten Path, a deliciously crisp pale golden beer that also happens to be gluten-free!
The Hop Studio Brewery
Located in Elvington, The Hop Studio was founded in 2012 with one simple aim – to make great tasting beer.
They brew small batches of artisan beer and like their beers to be full of flavour, aroma and charisma. With a full range of tastes, strengths and styles in both cask and keg their variety of core and seasonal beers, have more than enough to tempt any taste bud.
A personal favourite to recommend is the Pilsner – a fine Yorkshire lager, it’s got a clean crisp taste of creamy malt with strong herbal aromas and a dry hoppy finish that’s not too bitter. At 4% it’ll quench the thirst without knocking your socks off!
The Hop Studio own The Market Tap in Pocklington where you can try a vast array of their permanent and seasonal golden beauties.
The York Gin Company is a craft gin company making quality spirits in Yorkshire.
York Gin is the first gin distillery to appear in York, and has made a name for itself over the last few years as one of Yorkshire’s premier gin producers.
I recommend Roman Fruit, the distillery’s first fruit-infused gin and a celebration of Britain’s Roman history using the fruits associated with Ancient Rome.
Remember, you can get access to exclusive discounts on many York craft drinks and in many independent venues across the city with a Craft Savvy membership, what are you waiting for?
